Financial Support

Please see below for a list of provincial bursaries and other support available to help cover costs toward becoming registered. 

SASKATCHEWAN

Saskatchewan Health offers bursaries of $7000 to individuals taking part in the Multi-jurisdictional Midwifery Bridging Project. Recipients must commit to working in Saskatchewan for one year following successful completion of one of these programs.  For more information, see www.health.gov.sk.ca/ongoing-bursaries

MANITOBA

If you want to work as a midwife in Manitoba, the province of Manitoba offers financial assistance through its Credential Recognition Program.  Qualified applicants are reimbursed for 50% of approved costs up to a maximum of $2,250.00 upon presentation of receipts. These include the cost of assessment fees, exams, books, and other expenses incurred in meeting the requirements to become licensed.  Landed immigrants and recently naturalized Canadians are eligible for assistance under this program.  To qualify, applicants must have successfully completed a minimum of 14 years of education, including a two-year post-secondary program, outside of Canada and have credentials and work experience that are not formally recognized in Manitoba. Tuition is not funded under this program.  Note: The applicant must receive approval from Manitoba Labour & Immigration before beginning the assessment process.

BRITISH COLUMBIA

If you are an immigrant with permanent resident status in Canada or a Canadian citizen who arrived here in the last 5 years and you have worked as a midwife for at least 3 years in your home country, you may be eligible for funding through a BC government program. This program offers career counselling and financial support towards getting registered and starting work in your profession.

Participants may be eligible for funding toward the costs of courses and training required to register in their profession. (ie. English language and other upgrading courses, English language tests, exam fees, tutoring, books, etc)

Arrive BC (Vancouver Lower Mainland and other areas of BC)

Working Solutions (Vancouver Lower Mainland only)
