Immigration and Work Visas

Going to Canada
In order to work as a midwife in Canada, you will need to be legally entitled to work in Canada. The Going to Canada website is designed to provide easy access to information about how to obtain a temporary work visa and about how to immigrate to Canada on a permanent basis, as well as general information on living in Canada: www.directioncanada.gc.ca

Citizenship and Immigration Canada
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) provides comprehensive information about immigrating to Canada. A Newcomers Guide to Canada can be also accessed on this site: www.cic.gc.ca

Provincial Nominee Programs
Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) allow provincial governments to play a more direct role in selecting immigrants to their province. Immigration under a PNP is governed by different criteria than regular immigration. In British Columbia, midwives are specifically included in the short list of eligible occupations.
